My parents put me on a Shetland pony named “Sugar” when I was only a year old, since then I’ve never looked back. I knew horses were my passion and my calling and have been a part of my life ever since. I graduated from Gardner-Webb University in 1990 and began working for UPS. One day while delivering a package to Dun-N-Gold Paint Horses I spoke with the farm manager and offered to help part time. Part time became full time and I worked there for 3 years. During those 3 years I had the opportunity to work with Ken Bachus and Dr. Tye Ardrey and gained invaluable experience in equine care. I left and went to work with Dr. Ardrey at a breeding facility where I continued to gain knowledge in all aspects of equine reproduction.
Since 1998, I’ve worked with Dr. Ardrey as a technician along with operating my own breeding, foaling and supportive care facility which includes long term injury treatment and surgical recovery. At least 3 days a week during the breeding season, The Doctors at Maiden Large Animal Hospital visit my farm to perform ultrasounds and attend to the veterinary needs of my clients. I have been foaling out mares for 18 years with 1300 plus deliveries and have dealt with just about every problem that can occur during foaling. Being there when a mare goes into labor is of the utmost importance in order to save the foal and in some cases the mare; early detection of a problem is key. I have a great love for these wonderful animals and spend many a day and night without sleep, watching cameras and walking the hall in the barn waiting on mares to go into labor. I will be there when they foal and give them the care that they need.
In November 2013 we relocated to our new facilities - moving into our new barn on 10 acres in Catawba County. My farm is shared with animals of “many” kind. I have eight dogs, kittens, several chickens, eight horses, calves and occasional rescues that come and go. I enjoy being outdoors and whenever possible engage in barrel racing, trail riding, bicycling, kayaking, running, and racquetball.
I look forward to helping you with your equine breeding, foaling, or injury care. Please contact me at 704-530-2461.
